Feminist Women's Therapy Group |
||
|
This is a group just for women who are
seeking a supportive place to meet and talk with other women in a
feminist empowered space. Women who join this group may be dealing with
general life issues such as career concerns, life transitions, anxiety
or feelings of sadness, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, or
other general life issues. Members do not have to be dealing with
significant problems in one's life to be a part of this group. Women who
would like to join this group may be simply feeling the need to connect
with other women and have a desire to talk with other women in a fun,
supportive therapeutic environment. Many women seek out therapy because
they are needing a place to be heard, to feel supported and need to feel
connected with other women. Women often simply need a space to feel like
their concerns are being listened too and are validated. It is often the
nature of women to come together to laugh, talk, joke with and share
their lives with other women. In an area such as Los Angeles, where
people tend to isolate themselves, can be very transient and avoid
deeper, more meaningful interactions with one another, it is very
difficult to form meaningful friendships. Women often complain to me
that they have trouble finding others who they can trust, be themselves
with and just share their feelings and connect with other women. This
group is for you.
The Feminist Woman's Therapy Group is a general process group. It is a talk therapy group that is closed , meaning that members who join this group are willing to make a commitment to attend this group regularly for a minimum of 6 months or more because they want a safe, healing, emotional space to form deeper connections with other women. A closed group allows for participants to form deeper trusting relationships with others in a way that open groups where members come and go without obligation or commitment cannot. Typically women who join this group are professional or business women who are between 30-55 years of age. Housewives or women who work part-time are also appropriate for this group. Younger women will be considered for this group on a case by case basis. This group often attracts other psychotherapists who are seeking a supportive place to gain on-going support. Professional women, psychotherapists and business women often have trouble meeting others or making time to meet other women because of their roles in the community and the demands placed upon their schedules. Professional women, psychotherapists, business women and women in the arts tend to have a lot of responsibility and take on caring for others, typically to the detriment of their own needs. Thus this group is an excellent place for professional women, psychotherapists, business women, and women in the arts to come together to support one another and seek support. Often this group has a mix of women from various ethnic/racial backgrounds and sexual orientations. The idea is to find commonalities between women to come together for support, bonding and fun. Various forms of therapy will be used to facilitate this group, including art therapy, game play, creative therapies, sandplay therapy, skill building exercises, psycho-education, etc. All activities are based upon the needs of the group members. Potlucks and other activities are encouraged. Fee is $45/session. |
