Supportive Therapy Groups
All
therapy groups are designed to help empower, heal, and improve the lives
of women. At this time the only groups that are for both men and women
are the Partners of Survivors Group and the Psychotherapist Support
Group. I do not have any groups for teens at this time. If you
are an adolescent I am happy to work with you in individual
therapy.
The groups are about helping women to
feel more connected to others who have similar issues and experiences in
their lives. Being able to talk with others who relate to your
experiences can help you heal, let go of behaviors or beliefs that
interfere in your life now and see how other people have been able to
work through similar issues you have in your life now. Group therapy is
able to help you heal some issues more quickly and effectively than you
could in just individual therapy alone. It is empowering, helps you gain
a sense of belongingness and helps you to see ways others have been able
to deal with similar issues in their lives. Thus members help one
another through being able to observe on another's ways of healing,
growth and coping skills.
All of the groups are closed groups,
which means that members entering groups have to be screened by me
first, have to be willing and able to make a commitment to addend the
group each time they meet for a minimum of 6 months. This is critical
for groups to be effective in creating trust and emotional safety
amongst group members.
